The Model Academy
-
avoiding the scams

Do not be fooled by companies charging money to tell you if you have what it takes.

Warning 1: It appears to us, looking around the internet, that there are an awful lot of companies out there who seem keen to charge you £50 to tell you whether you have what it takes to become a model. To add insult to injury, these companies also want to charge additional “cancellation” fees if you don’t attend the assessment day they’ve arranged for you. If you’re REALLY unlucky some of them they even have the cheek to expect you to buy photos while you’re there, whether you want them or not (this seems like just another nasty hidden cost to us). Now, assuming you manage to escape paying the hidden costs, it still seems a bit cheeky of them to ask for £50 from you, when all they’re really doing is working out whether you’re the right height and shape, and whether you have the right ‘look’. Surely this can be done with a few suitable snapshots and your vital statistics…? If you’re lucky you might get a bit of make-up done and your hair fluffed up a bit to make you feel like your money was well spent, but ultimately, they’ve taken £50 off of you for nothing. At the end of the day have you learnt anything? Has it helped you on your way to making a living as a model? No, we thought not.

And what if you’re still not decided on whether a career as a model is right for you?
That’s £50 down the drain. Legitimate businesses will assess you FREE OF CHARGE, and in our case even our Insight Into Modelling sessions are FREE, to help you be certain you want to follow this career.

Don’t pay a penny until you know that it’s right for you.

Read Kirstie’s story….

If only I had heard of The Model Academy sooner...

Please read my story!

Do you live, dream and exist solely to become the next top model?

Do you surf the web searching for the best way to break into the modelling industry?

Would you spend any amount of money to achieve your lucky break?

If so, you are unfortunately very much like me a few years ago!

Having this much ambition and determination can sometimes leave you open to be taken for a bit of a sucker or in a con artists eyes, "EASY MONEY!"

My name is Kirstie, I am 21 years of age & for as long as I can remember, I have dreamt of becoming the next Heidi Klum, Kate Moss or Claudia Schiffer.

I have experienced MANY knock backs from agencies, I have also spent many nights crying and depressed that I haven’t succeeded in making it big yet!

When I was 19 yrs of age, I was contacted by D***** MODEL AGENCY.
They gave me an over the phone interview and their sales pitch that I might not be a successful candidate blah blah blah!

Never the less, to my excitement (at the time) I was just what they were looking for! They booked me into SKYLIGHT STUDIOS. They promised me I would be just one step away from becoming a top model.

I had to buy my own portfolio, which I was assured was perfectly normal.
It would cost me NO MORE that £50.

I spent the day at the studio, took many outfits with me and was complimented all-day about my flawless skin and potential to make it!

I was then taken into the room to check out my new pictures. The huge screen showed me 48 pictures all of which looked colourful and all of which I loved being in the overwhelmed state that I was in.

I HAD to buy them all I was told, I was also told if I didn’t do this, I wasn’t really that keen to model and might as well quit now.

“They gave me the CD of shots that night, no prints though (That was extra) The CD was for a trivial sum of £1400!!! All of my savings!!! Needless to say, I was now broke. I sent these shots to agencies and ALL the agencies have informed me they are not good enough quality to use!

I have NEVER heard from D****** models with work EVER! :(

Don't be a sucker like I was!
Be wise and if I were new to the industry, I would talk to Ruth!

Warning 2: There is a myth amongst budding models that to make a start in the industry all you need is a portfolio full of pictures and a telephone. Wrong! It is true that some extremely lucky models make the break into the industry like this, but the remaining 99% will find that good old-fashioned common-sense needs to be followed. We have heard stories of £1,500 or more being paid by poor unfortunate people for a “portfolio”.

Now let’s just take a long hard look at that – let’s just imagine paying up-front for a full set of driving lessons AND for the theory and practical tests, and then before you’d even got into the car on your first lesson being handed your licence and being told to teach yourself the rest. Is this fair? And more importantly, do you think you’d be a good driver? You’ve handed over your money, but you don’t even know which side the ignition key is on yet. Worse still, you’ve been let loose on the open road. This is an accident waiting to happen, and just like so many potential models who end up paying way too much money up-front for a portfolio it will end in tears with no training or skills to back it up. Anybody can stand in front of a camera. But if it was that easy wouldn’t everybody be doing it…?
Don’t be fooled, to be successful you need the skills, and the only way you are going to get them is by learning them.
